How to Start a Fire with Flint & Steel

1. Choose a safe, clear, well-ventilated fire site.
2. Hold the flint in one hand and the striker in the other at a slight angle.
3. Place a piece of charcloth close to the striking edge of the flint.
4. Strike the flint sharply downward with the striker in a controlled motion.
5. Catch the sparks on the charcloth until it begins to smoulder.
6. Transfer the glowing charcloth into the jute tinder bundle.
7. Gently blow on the ember until the tinder catches flame.
8. Build your fire by adding small kindling, then larger fuel.
